Prime Time for Geeks

Just bought the new Wired magazine (the September issue, i'm confused again when they come out). Anyway, they published this article on new shows to watch this fall.

When ABC broadcast a national teen spelling bee in prime time recently, the maneuver attracted a respectable 9 million viewers and signaled that network TV producers are seriously getting their geek on. Taking a peek at the pilots for the new fall shows, you'll see they're waking up to videogames, BlackBerrys, and comic books, too. We tuned in to the most nerdtastic upcoming programs and rated their chances of surviving until sweeps. If one of these gems doesn't make the cut, at least it can rerun eternally on BitTorrent.

Frisky Dingo (Cartoon Network)
Plot A vilain who wants to destroy the world (but has cash-flow problems) and a hero who should be fighting evil (but would rather focus on endorsement deals) may possibly face off. Someday. Precursors Mystery Men, The Specials, and Drawn Together. Wired's take Hurray! The creators of Adult Swim's first original animated show, Sealab 2021, are back. TV has never been so hilarious.

Justice (Fox)
Plot Hotshot lawyers solve high-profilpe cases using the sweetest high tech gadgets ever to appear in a courtroom drama. Precursors Perry Mason, L.A. Law, Law and Order. Wired's take Lawyers scan documents, spy on potential jurors, and re-create murders with motion-capture rigs - Jerry Bruckheimer, supergenius.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (NBC)
Plot Aaron Sorkin takes a behind-the-scene look at a sketch comedy show à la Saturday Night Live. Precursors The Larry Sanders Show, Sports Night, and Lorne Micheals'30 rock. Wired's take Smart, skillfully acted, and so well produced you'll forget tou're watching a tube, Micheals should study Studio 60 for pointers on how to run the real SNL.

Heroes (NBC)
Plot Ordinary folk suddenly find they have superpowers - an artist who paints the future, an invincible cheerleader with rapid healing abilities, a teleporting salaryman who stops time. Precursors NBC's 1985 sci-fi comedy, Misfits of science in wich a rock guitarist fired lightning bolts from his fists an Courtney Cox could move things with her pre-friends mind. Wired's take Heroe's takes itself a bit too seriously at times, but the idea of a real-world Super Friends hold us captive like a Wonder Twins ice cage.

Jericho (CBS)
Plot Acts of nuclear terrorism destroy most of the US" Chaos ensues as the isolated residents of a small Kansas town try to piece together what happened. Precursors The movie The Day After, and Testament, wich taught Americans a valuable lesson: If the blast doesn't kill you, your postapocalyptic neighbor just might. Wired's take Like the residents of Jericho, you will be kept in the dark and fed barely satisfying morsels of info about what's going on. But hey, it works for Lost.

Dance Revolution (CBS)
Plot Inspired by the videogame Dance Dance Revolution....
Ahhhh what the hell, I won't watch that last one, so I won't transcribe it to my blog ;).

Looks like Jericho is seeing another reincarnation minus 90210 characters. I have a sad feeling Heroes is going going to tank.
